Micah Status Site

Micah Status Site

Yesterday around 11:00 a.m. Micah had surgery to insert the g-tube (feeding tube) into his stomach. It seems like the procedure went well. He wasn’t fed at all yesterday and won’t get his first feeding until around 8:00 a.m. today. After his feeding, we will have a better idea how if everything is working okay. Monday, the afternoon after the last update, the doctor’s felt they were going to need to definitely do the fundu surgery to keep Micah from throwing up. That is where they take part of the stomach and wrap it around the esophagus so food can go down but not back up again. The doctors were feeling that the reflux was probably the cause of Micah’s frequent de-sats. The following day, though, they tried changing his feeding schedule. They gave him less milk more frequently and it seems as if that really helped reduce his reflux and reduce his de-sats. So, late Tuesday, the doctors decided to hold off on the fundu surgery and just do the one to insert the g-tube. On Monday and Tuesday, Micah had a therapy session for his body and to help him learn to drink from a bottle. Monday’s session was not good. He had a different therapist who did things differently than Micah was used to. Micah did not do well at all and was very unhappy. Tuesday, when his regular (and favorite) therapist came, he did very well and took in 10 cc’s of milk through a bottle. We love this therapist (and we believe Micah does, too!) and pray that somehow we can get her to help with Micah’s therapy when he goes home.

Yesterday afternoon, when I left Micah, he was sleeping but he felt very hot. I asked the nurse if he was running a fever and she said that his temperature had been spiking and then going down. She had given him Tylenol. They put Micah on oxygen for the night to help him since he was sedated. This will help him keep is oxygen saturation levels up.

As we sit back and reflect on what God has been doing in Micah, we are in awe of His goodness.

We asked for all of you to pray that Micah’s throat muscles and swallowing reflexes would strengthen so he could clear his own secretions and would not need a trach and, so far, the doctor’s aren’t even talking about it anymore. THANK YOU, LORD!

We asked God to strengthen Micah’s sucking and swallowing reflexes so he could drink from a bottle. Micah is beginning to suck and drink very small amounts and we are believing it won’t be too long before he will be able to drink an entire feeding from a bottle. GOD, YOU ARE SO GOOD!!!

We asked God to stop his seizures. He hasn’t had a seizure since Sept. 12th and has been COMPLETELY off all seizure medicines for more than a week now! Perhaps God has already healed that part of his brain! YOU ARE THE GREAT HEALER, LORD!

We asked God to help Micah breath on his own. On Sept. 9th, Micah came off the ventilator. On Sept. 17th, the oxygen mask came off. On Sept. 20th, the little nose tube that gives a little oxygen came off. And since then, he has been breathing only room air (with the exception of a little oxygen right now just after his surgery). THANK YOU, LORD, FOR BREATHING YOUR LIFE INTO MICAH!

Micah now cries with nearly the volume and intensity of a healthy newborn. All of his organs are working well…and he just gets more beautiful every day that passes!

Oh, another great thing to note is that Micah LOVES his praise music! I put a cd player in his room almost 2 weeks ago and it plays sweet, beautiful praise music 24/7. Every now and then, a nurse will turn it off to move things around in the room and once in a while they forget to turn it back on. Yesterday the nurse told us that the music was off when she came in for her shift and when she turned it back on, Micah immediately calmed down. She said that he really likes it!!! Yayy!!!! Our little worshipper is praising Jesus while he’s being healed!!!!!!!! (Just a note: Stephanie says that the nurses come in and out of his room and some of them have begun to hum or sing the songs that play on the cd. They have told her that “they just can’t get that song out of my head”! I can think of nothing more wonderful to have “stuck in the head” than words that give honor and glory and praise to the One True Physician…our King…our Lord and Savior….Jesus!

PLEASE KEEP UP YOUR WONDERFUL PRAYER BATTLE FOR MICAH.

PRAY THAT MICAH RECOVERS PERFECTLY FROM THE PROCEDURE TO INSERT THE FEEDING TUBE.

PLEASE CONTINUE TO PRAY THAT MICAH CONTINUES TO SUCK WITH STRENGTH SO HE CAN FULLY FEED ON HIS OWN AND THAT GOD WOULD RESTORE HIS MUSCLE STRENGTH & TONE IN HIS THROAT.

PRAY THAT HE CONTINUES TO CLEAR HIS OWN SECRETIONS THROUGH SWALLOWING AND COUGHING.

PRAY THAT MICAH WILL CONTINUE TO BREATHE COMPLETELY ON HIS OWN & THAT HIS LUNGS CONTINUE TO STRENGTHEN.

PRAY FOR COMPLETE HEALING OF MICAH’S BODY & MUSCLES….PRAY THAT GOD WOULD HEAL HIS SPACTICITY & THAT MICAH WOULD BEGIN TO HAVE NORMAL, HEALTHY REFLEXES IN HIS HANDS, ARMS, LEGS AND FEET.

PRAY FOR PROTECTION OVER MICAH AND PROTECTION AGAINST ANY ILLNESSES OR INFECTIONS.

PRAY FOR COMPLETE HEALING & RESTORATION OF HIS SIGHT.

THIS IS MOST IMPORTANT TO PRAY FOR – COMPLETE HEALING AND RESTORATION OF MICAH’S BRAIN.

Thank you again for walking and warring with us in the amazing journey of Micah’s healing. God is so good and I will forever spend my life thanking and praising Him for His goodness, mercy and love!
