Update #12

MICAH IS STILL BREATHING ON HIS OWN –

Micah is still doing fairly well breathing on his own. Since last Wednesday evening, the tube in his nose for oxygen has been removed and he is completely breathing room air. Over the weekend, he has been having “de-sats” up to 3 times an hour. De-sats are when his oxygen levels go down to an undesirable mark. Micah’s body is able to correct them without intervention (usually within a minute) so that is good. It would be better that he has NO de-sats at all. Micah seems to have developed a pretty bad case of reflux. He throws up sometimes 3 times an hour. His vitals do not really change (except for his oxygen saturation levels – temporarily). The gastro doctor will come in today to discuss this situation and possibly make a decision whether or not to do this procedure in his stomach that prevents him from throwing up – I can’t remember what it is called – fundi or something. Anyway, it is like folding the top of the stomach. If done, Micah will never be able to throw up again. They don’t want to do anything that is not necessary so we will not know what their opinion is until later. Micah is scheduled for surgery on Wednesday for the insertion of either a G-tube or a plug for feeding. They may or may not do that on Wednesday, but the surgery is scheduled just in case. Micah’s therapist did not come over the weekend so his therapy is continuing today. We are praying that he continues to suck the little bottle of milk and are hoping that his sucking has strengthened. Micah has been much fussier than usual. He cries a lot. (He now has a pretty normal & loud sounding cry!!!) We don’t know if it is because he is uncomfortable because of the reflux or if it is because he is more aware than he has been in the past. Micah’s has been on phenobarbitol and dylantin for seizures for so long. He hasn’t had any doses of any seizure medicines for quite some time – perhaps a week? It is wonderful that he hasn’t had any seizures since then. Maybe Micah is more fussy because he can “feel” now that he isn’t so drugged. The neurologist said that they will put Micah on a maintenance seizure medication if he needs it but won’t give him any more meds for them until he has a seizure. It is possible that he may not have seizures anymore. That would be a miracle!!!! Perhaps the Lord has already healed that part of Micah’s brain!!!

There are some issues with the former hospital/insurance company that may come into play. Apparently the case workers at both hospitals were talking in one of their meetings and the former hospital’s case worker said that director of their hospital said that “the plans have changed and we want Micah transferred back to our facility”. I believe that was last Thursday or Friday. While at this time, no formal request has been received by Chris and Stephanie, we would like for all of you to please pray that they would leave Micah alone. We do not want him transferred back. CHOC is the best place for him. They are working a wonderful therapy plan to get him ready to go home. They are giving Micah every chance to do well on his own without any medical interventions such as trach, etc. They have been wonderful at CHOC.

Here are the current prayer requests for Micah. Please keep praying. God is hearing our prayers.

PRAY FOR A COMPLETE HEALING & RESTORATION OF MICAH’S BRAIN & BODY.

PRAY FOR STRENGTHING IN HIS BREATHING, GAGGING, SUCKING & ALL INVOLUNTARY RESPONSES AND REFLEXES.

PRAY FOR MICAH TO BE ABLE TO TAKE IN MORE FOOD BY MOUTH AND THAT HIS SUCTION AND SWALLOWING STRENGTH INCREASES IMMEDIATELY.

PRAY FOR MORE STRENGTH & STABILITY IN MICAH’S BREATHING AND OXYGEN SATURATIONS. PRAY THAT THEY REMAIN ABOVE 90% CONSISTENTLY.

PRAY FOR HEALING OF MICAH’S REFLUX AND THAT HE STOPS THROWING UP HIS FOOD.

PRAY FOR HIS MUSCLES TO STRENGTHEN THROUGHOUT HIS BODY & FOR ALL SPASTICITY TO BE GONE. HIS LEGS ARE VERY SPASTIC AND STIFF AS ARE HIS THUMBS. ALL OF HIS MUSCLES NEED HEALING.

CONTINUE TO PRAY THAT MICAH WILL NOT NEED A TRACHEOTOMY.

PRAY THAT MICAH CONTINUES TO GET HIS HEATHCARE AT CHOC AND THAT THE LORD WILL DO WHATEVER HE NEEDS TO DO TO MAKE THIS HAPPEN.

PRAY FOR PROTECTION OVER BABY MICAH & FOR THE PEACE OF THE LORD TO REST ON HIM CONTINUALLY.

Please don’t stop praying for our precious Micah. We are still desperately seeking God’s complete healing of this child.

With thankfulness in our hearts for your prayers and for what God has already done,

Gary and Teri Stache

Gary and Teri,

I am in full agreement with the prayers you mentioned over baby Micah. And may His presence rest on you, your son and his girlfriend as well through this painful and trying process.

God has a wonderful plan for Micahs life. It is evident that he only chooses the most caring parents (and grandparents) to have such a special child.. Thank you for keeping us updated...we continue to pray for all of you!
