January Update - Micah

Micah Update

I apologize for so much time between our last update and this one. Thank you for all of your letters asking about how Micah is doing. I will do my best to answer each one of your letters personally in the next few days.

The truth is, we don’t really “know” how Micah is doing. We have not seen Micah in at least a month. We miss him terribly. I have only briefly spoken to Chris twice in the past month and to Stephanie once (see below) and they said they would bring Micah down for a visit (we only live 30 or so minutes away). That never materialized and they haven’t called or answered our calls. I have left numerous messages this past month on Stephanie’s phone asking when we could visit Micah and asking how he was. No return calls. I’ve emailed and even left messages to her on her Myspace page……nothing. Chris finally called on Christmas evening to say they would come down but I had gotten very ill that evening so it didn’t work out. Chris called this past week to say he would bring Micah down for a visit this past weekend, but he never came and they never called. We honestly don’t know what to think.

A little over a month ago, we had rented a clubhouse for January 7th and had planned to invite anyone who desired to join us for lunch and to meet and pray for Micah. While Stephanie had originally thought it a good idea, she never confirmed it with us and didn’t return calls so we had to cancel the prayer day.

It has been quite painful for our family since we haven’t a clue what is going on. So, we’ve basically decided to stop calling them. They know we are here for them and for Micah.

There are a few things we do know and can share with you.

During our trip to Pennsylvania to the Institutes, while I was taking care of Micah, it seemed like he was having seizures from time to time. After we had returned home, Chris called saying that they had been getting more frequent. At around that time, Medi-Cal finally approved Micah for coverage (Praise God!) and they cancelled Micah’s HMO insurance. As the seizure-like symptoms began to increase in frequency, Stephanie called CHOC and they had their pediatrician examine Micah. At that appointment, the doctor admitted Micah to the hospital for testing. He had an EEG and a CAT Scan. Stephanie called me and told me that the EEG showed abnormal seizure-like activity in the brain but she wouldn’t know the results of the CAT Scan until the next day. She said they were going to give Micah Phenobarbitol for the seizures and she was worried because it isn’t good for him and also because she was wanting to start his therapies. When Micah was a newborn, he was put on Phenobarbitol and he was out of it. He basically didn’t wake up for the first three weeks of his life. Stephanie had to go then because the doctors were coming in to give him his medicine. She said she would call back. That was basically the last time we talked. That was a few days before Christmas. I tried calling her and left messages to no avail.

We have since heard that Micah went home the next day and that he is still on low doses of Phenobarbitol but he is fairly alert. He has had a cold and is probably recovered from that by now. I am assuming he is beginning his therapies and is doing well. We also have learned that Micah is up to about 11 ½ pounds which is great! He still needs to gain much more weight but it is a start.

We are so thankful to God for all He has done and for what He is continuing to do in Micah. Micah is such a special little baby and the Lord has a unique plan just for Micah’s life. God has already used Micah to bring so much love, hope and joy to so many of us. God has used his precious life’s journey to touch each of us in a special way. The more time that passes, the more and more comfort I find in knowing that Micah is truly in God’s hands. God loves him more than all of us combined. No circumstance will change the fact that God will take complete care of our precious grandson. Micah is really going to be okay. Actually, he’s going to better than “okay”. God takes care of His own.

The beautiful photos in this update I believe are recent. I copied them off of Stephanie’s mother’s Myspace to share with you. They are the only ones we have right now but they show just how absolutely adorable Micah is!

While our updates may be infrequent these days, please do not forget Micah. Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers.

PRAY FOR A FULL HEALING OF HIS BRAIN & BODY.

PRAY THAT HIS SEIZURES WILL CEASE

PRAY THAT HE WILL RESPOND TO HIS THERAPIES.

PRAY THAT HIS CORTICAL BLINDNESS WILL BE HEALED.

PRAY FOR PROTECTION AGAINST ILLNESS & INFECTION.

PRAY FOR JOY AND PEACE.

PRAY FOR SPIRITUAL PROTECTION OVER HIM.

Even more importantly, please pray for Chris and for Stephanie. They need our prayers the most. Ask the Lord to show you how to pray for them.

ASK THE LORD TO REVEAL HIMSELF TO THEM IN A TANGIBLE WAY.

PRAY FOR PROTECTION OVER THEM PHYSICALLY & ESPECIALLY SPIRITUALLY.

PRAY THAT GOD WOULD TAKE OUT ALL THE HINDRANCES IN THEIR LIVES THAT CAUSE THEM TO RESIST HIS LOVE.

PRAY THAT ALL THE BONDAGES BE BROKEN IN THEIR LIVES SO THEY CAN BE SET FREE & LIVE THE LIFE OF FREEDOM & JOY THAT GOD HAS WAITING FOR THEM.

We can never thank you enough for all you have been to our family, for all you are, for the countless prayers offered up for our grandson and kids, for your unbelievable faithfulness and desire to stay informed on Micah’s progress. We will update you as we receive information on how Micah is doing so that we can all continue to persist in prayer.

May God richly reward you for your kindness and love,

Teri and Gary Stache
